A 20-year-old Franksville man who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic check appeared to be passed out, but as deputies tried to speak with him, he suddenly lunged and allegedly punched a deputy in the head.
According to the criminal complaint filed May 13:
County deputies were sent to assist the State Patrol with a possible intoxicated driver who had been stopped on I-94 in the Town of Yorkville.
As the driver under went field sobriety tests, deputies attempted to speak with Jessy A. Kujac, who was slumped over in the passenger seat, at times moaning and at other times not responding. Kujac suddenly lunged at a deputy, grabbing his left forearm and then grabbing him behind the neck with his left hand, pulling the deputy to him.
Kujac swore and punched the deputy in the back of his head just above his left ear, causing pain and swelling.
After being tased, Kujac went to the ground; the deputy lost his footing; and both fell into the road ditch, where Kujac reportedly continued to resist officers, requiring another shock. While en route to jail, Kujac reportedly threatened to kill the deputy whom he earlier punched.
Kujac is charged with felony battery of a peace officer, misdemeanor resisting an officer and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
He was due in court May 23 for a preliminary hearing.
