A mere two-vote difference in preliminary results gave newcomer Adam Graf (330 votes) a thin lead over incumbent Ron Bogard (228 votes) for the Trustee No. 3 position on the Union Grove Village Board.

Absentee ballots will decide that race which, at press time, was too close to call.

Tuesday night, Graf attributed his strong showing to his face-to-face, doorbell-ringing initiative to meet village voters and hear their concerns.

• Voters returned Dover Town Chairman Tom Lembcke (345 votes, 40.59 percent) back to the board. He withstood a challenge from Mario Lena  (206 votes,  24.24 percent)  on the ballot.

The total of write-in votes (228) cast for Mario Denoto was actually higher than Lena’s 206 vote total. Denoto had waged a last-minute grassroots write-in campaign for the town chairman position.

He explained Wednesday morning that, if elected, he hoped to ensure that budget issues are more carefully attended to, and that meetings conducted in a more professional manner.

Following are preliminary election results from local contested municipal and school board races as of press time Wednesday.
