The public is invited to attend the field dedication for the newly named “Bronco Field” and athletic facilities at Union Grove Union High School on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 29.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and field dedication is at 1 p.m.
Immediately afterward, an open house of the high school facilities runs to 5 p.m., for residents to view building improvements made over the last few years, as well as the new athletic facilities.
“We are proud of the facilities updates that have been taking place around our campus and invite the public to join us on Sunday as we celebrate our great school,” said Superintendent Al Mollerskov.
Students began the 2013-2014 school year with a new synthetic athletic field and rubberized track in place.
“It has been an amazing transformation to watch,” said Mollerskov.
In June, crews came in to start the summer project. The new field has layers of sand and tiny rubber beads that give resiliency to the new surface, as well as a new rubber coated track.
“Thank you to all the taxpayers who made this field a reality,” said Mollerskov.
Spectators will also see a new scoreboard for football, soccer and track events, donated by Community State Bank and Martin Chrysler-Ford.
Other noticeable improvements made this summer are:
• Resurfaced tennis courts, donated by Asphalt Contractors.
• A Family and Consumer Education classroom was renovated and a new Culinary Arts facility built.
With this new facility, students will be able to immerse themselves in ProStart, a nationwide, two-year high school program that unites the classroom and industry to develop the best and brightest talent into tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice leaders.
• A physics classroom received a complete renovation.
Since the building addition and renovation in 2000, many other areas of the high school have received a facelift or renovation in recent years.
• An apartment was built in a former classroom to assist the age 18-21 year-old special needs students’ transition to life outside of school. Here, daily housekeeping skills are practiced along with weekly outings and work in the community.
• Several science rooms have received face-lifts to create better learning spaces.
• A new engineering/CAD (Computer Aided Design) lab is in place.
