In this season of giving thanks, the Union Grove Kiwanis are giving thanks for the great community support behind this year’s Christmas tree sale lot.
And since the proceeds raised go back into the community, there’s a lot of thanks being shared all around.
“Our nostalgic tree lot was a huge success,” said Dan Maurice, who spearheaded the fundraiser.
“We sold over 100 trees and were sold out early into the second weekend.”
There was some chilly weather to contend with on the second weekend, added Kiwanis member Ann Kerman, “but people still came out and supported us.
“We plan to do it again next year and get more trees, including more of the larger ones that there seemed to be a demand for.”
The Kiwanis tree lot brought a great deal of excitement to downtown Union Grove, Maurice said.
“People enjoyed the old- fashioned look of the lot, along with an old time record player that was set up,” he said. Two customers even went home to get some of their old records to share with everyone.
“Christmas spirit was not too hard to find!”
The lot’s warming barrel was a popular place for people to stand around, enjoy cookies and hot chocolate and tell Christmas stories of years gone by, Maurice added.
People enjoyed being able to locally buy the high quality trees, as well as liking the idea of all the profits going to a good local cause.
“We have already taken some of the money and purchased gifts for children helped by the Union Grove Area Food Bank. We wanted them to have some gifts to open under their trees,” Maurice added.
The Kiwanis would like to thank everyone for coming out, supporting the sale and making this a huge success, he added.
“Plans are already under way for next year. Along with getting more trees, we have some great ideas for making the tree lot even more nostalgic and exciting.
“We look forward to seeing everyone next year. Merry Christmas!”
