A burned out headlight led to the arrest of a Union Grove man on a fifth drunken driving charge Aug. 21 in the Town of Burlington.
Stanley A. Bies, 41, is charged in Racine County Circuit Court with operating while intoxicated – fifth offense – with a minor in the vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while revoked.
According to the criminal complaint filed in a case, a Racine County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over the vehicle Bies was driving on the Burlington bypass highway shortly after midnight because the driver’s side headlight was not working.
Bies then allegedly admitted that his driver’s license was revoked. During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy noticed the odor of alcohol on Bies’ breath and decided to conduct field sobriety tests.
Based on that testing, the deputy administered a breath test, which indicated a preliminary blood alcohol content of .151, nearly twice the level considered legal evidence of intoxication.
Bies was then arrested and taken to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington for a blood test.
After the test, Bies allegedly told the deputy he drank six beers at a friend’s house in Lyons.
The felony drunken driving charge was upgraded because Bies’ minor son was with him in the vehicle at the time.
Bies appeared in court Aug. 21 where $3,000 cash bond was set and he was ordered not to possess or drink alcohol and submit to random alcohol testing while his case is pending.
A preliminary hearing in the case was set for Aug. 29.
