Village officials are beginning negotiations with the Racine County Sheriff’s Office for its annual contract, which is set to expire at the end of 2013.
Union Grove officials have worked with the Sheriff’s Office for more than three decades and during a village meeting held June 1, it was noted a rate increase for services provided to the Village by the law enforcement agency is planned.
Village Trustee Gordon Svendsenbrought the issue forward Monday night to inform the Village’s Building Board of the budget process across all department committees, in order to make them aware of the increase and to balance the budget for 2014.
The Village of Union Grove operated its own police department before disbanding in the early 1980s. The decision to contract with the Sheriff’s office was made in order to reduce costs to the Village.
Svendsen indicated the matter will be eventually be discussed at the Village’s Police Commission meeting, which is held at the end of each month.
The next is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23.
