Quick action by Racine County Sheriff’s Deputy K-9 Friday resulted in the arrest of a suspect reportedly hiding in a partially wooded area to avoid other deputies who were searching for him.
According to a media release from the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were investigating a domestic abuse incident at about 2 a.m., Aug. 18, in the 1800 block of Main Street, Union Grove.
The suspect, identified as William E. Stockwell, 34, had fled the residence into a nearby woods.
Within minutes of the K-9 officer starting to track the suspect, Stockwell was located and immediately surrendered. He was taken into custody without further incident.
“The use of K-9 Friday brought the situation to a quick and peaceful resolution,” said a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Stockwell, of Union Grove, is being held at the Racine County Jail on charges of intimidation of a witness, resisting/obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct and bail jumping. The state Department of Corrections has also placed a hold on his release from jail for previously filed charges.
Stockwell made an initial appearance in court Aug. 19 for the latest charges, pled not guilty, and a $750 cash bond was set.
He is next due in court Sept. 13 for a status conference in this month’s case and a separate case in which battery and disorderly conduct charges were filed in March 2013.
