An overloaded electrical outlet is being blamed for starting of fire Saturday afternoon in a 22-unit assisted living complex for senoirs in the 1400 block of 13th Avenue in Union Grove. Damage was confined to the unit where the fire started and there were no injuries reported, however, one person was treated at the scene for hyperventilation.
Here is the text of a press release issued by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department:
“The first deputy on scene was able to get the fire extinguisher from his squad and could see an active fire just inside the apartment. Opening the sliding patio door the deputy was able to knock down the fire prior to the arrival of fire personnel. Once fire personnel were on scene they used their equipment to extinguish several hot spots in the walls and attic area of the apartment.
“Initial investigation by fire personnel shows the potential cause of the fire is due to an overloaded electrical outlet in the affected apartment.
“This apartment is occupied by a 65-year-old male who not home at the time of the fire. One resident, a 48-year-old female was treated at the scene for symptoms of hyperventilation. There were no reported injuries to any other residents or emergency personnel.
“At the time of this press release the only affected apartment was the one where the fire started and no other residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
“The Racine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by members of the Union Grove-Yorkville Fire Department, Raymond F.D. and Kanasville F.D.”
