At its Sept. 16 school board meeting, the Raymond School District School Board received findings from a comprehensive facility assessment recently completed by Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA).
The assessment highlighted findings detailed in the complete Facility Assessment report and confirmed needs related to plumbing and sewage management, deteriorating roof components, inefficient windows and doors, and security upgrades to provide appropriate visual sight lines to incoming visitors and controlled entry into the building.
EUA also identified needs for more space and resources to support students with disabilities and flexible learning spaces that support multi-purpose function for school and community use.
The district is currently using portable classrooms established in 2003 as a temporary solution for housing the library and band classrooms.
General classroom capacity analysis indicates adequate square footage in most classrooms based on current student enrollment but noted the lack of appropriate middle school science lab, physical education, band and library areas as well as space limitations to develop additional curriculum for Family and Consumer Education (FACE) and Technology Education (Tech Ed).
After reviewing the report, the School Board has invited all district residents to participate in a Community Workshop on facility planning scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. (building tour) and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (interactive workshop in the Raymond School gym).
Residents will be asked to provide input on prioritization of identified needs and to brainstorm potential solutions for further investigation and cost analysis.
“It is very important that we develop a strategic approach to our facility needs and work together to reflect the community’s interests and investment in Raymond School,” commented Dawn Peterson, School Board President.
Following the identification of potential solutions, the Board will survey all district residents in November to understand community support for preliminary options and associated costs.
“Our solutions for facility needs must align to the priorities of our community and the expectations for student achievement,” stated Joe Dawidziak, District Administrator. “We are committed to involving the community in the process.”
