The development of School Yard Park is nicely taking shape thanks to the Union Grove Lions Club again stepping up to the plate by donating additional money to add a foundation to the park’s four sets of bleachers.
The Village Board has been working on the creation of the park for more than a year.
In February, the Lions Club donated the bleachers and the park needs a foundation to support the weight of those structures. Public Works Director Mark Osmundsen reported that the bleachers have a limestone and concrete foundation.
Village Trustee Adam Graf, who coaches elementary school soccer, said he is impressed with the quality of turf at the new park.
“The turf looks really good,” Graf said. “I like it a lot.”
School Yark Park is the site of a former elementary school, which was torn down five years ago. The Village Board then made the decision to develop the land into a soccer field.
Previously, the park received donations from other community groups during its development, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Union Grove Kiwanis Club.
School Yard Park also currently sports a dining area and some picnic tables to welcome families attending games.
The Park is located on 14th Avenue and State Street.
