Shepherds Ministries offers summer camp

      Shepherds Ministries, a leading provider of services to adults with intellectual disabilities, is preparing to launch three, one-week summer camps for students, ages 13 to 21, on the campus in Union Grove.

“For many years, Shepherds Ministries has offered quality programs to help and encourage families with adult children who have intellectual disabilities,” said Andrea Humphrey, Coordinator of Camp Discovery.

“We see a pronounced need among families for a respite program for younger children in the same situation.”

By creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment, the staff of Camp Discovery will help campers start to explore questions like “Who am I?” and “What can I do with my abilities?”

Through a variety of skill-building classes and fun activities like field trips, boating, crafts, Bible studies, sports and computers, Camp Discovery can help students discover the possibilities that lie ahead.

“All the students who attend Camp Discovery will be learning how to set good goals for themselves,” said Humphrey.

“They’ll learn more about who they are and what they can do, perhaps even learning or trying something new they never thought they could do before.

“My biggest goal and prayer in creating Camp Discovery was for one thing – that even one child or young adult would see they were designed on purpose and for a purpose.”

Camp Discovery currently has openings for campers to attend the following dates:

June 17-23, ages 13 to 17;
June 24-30, ages 18 to 21; and July 1-5, ages 18 to 21.

Costs are $700 per week and include all activities. Those eligible for the IRIS program can use these funds.
