Town of Dover Supervisor No. 1 Mike Shenkenberg hopes to be elected to his third term on the town board.
His challenger, Deborah Krogh, hopes to replace him on the board.
Voters will decide which way it will be when the two candidates face off in the April 2 spring election.
Shenkenberg, age 42, works in the construction trades as a cement mason. He’s coached football in Racine Youth Sports for 10 years and coached at the Burlington Wrestling Club, also for 10 years.
He believes his record in office speaks for itself.
“Since being on the town board, we’ve lowered taxes, cut spending and reduced our town’s deficit,” Shenkenberg said, “and we have not cut services. We’ve reorganized some services, but still supply the services we’ve had.”
If re-elected, Shenkenberg said he looks forward to finalizing an issue that’s been ongoing since before he took office.
It involves a subpoena lawsuit regarding one of the roads in the township, Shenkenberg explained. The township has been awarded money in that lawsuit, but hasn’t yet been able to collect.
Looking back at what the board was able to accomplish in the last few years, Shenkenberg said it’s been quite a challenge during these tight times.
“It’s been very tough for all branches of government because of all the cuts from above, which I agree with – we all need to tighten our belts a bit. But it’s been tough,” Shenkenberg said.
Krogh could not be reached by press time for inclusion in this story.
