One former board supervisor and a political newcomer face off April 2 in an election to fill the Supervisor No. 2 position on the Dover Town Board.

Candidate information provided by each candidate follows.

Larry Neau, who previously served as a Town of Dover supervisor, said he agreed to again run for a position on the Town Board after being asked to run by Supervisor Scott Willkomm, who is not seeking re-election.

If elected, Neau said he will bring to the board his past experience and help to maintain continuity in continuing to pay down the town’s debt of about $1 million.

The most pressing issues facing Dover township are budgetary, Neau said.

“The current board had to deal with $1.4 million in debt they were handed from the prior board,” Neau explained.

The current board – consisting of Tom Lembcke, Scott Willkomm and Mike Shenkenberg – has done an outstanding job in paying down the town’s debt, Neau added.

Neau pointed to 30 years of experience in owning his own business, his past years of service and experience on the town board, as well as his relationships with state politicians as all being helpful if he is again elected.

Samuel Stratton describes himself as someone who likes to jump in and get the job done.

He points to his 14 years in the U.S. Army Reserve (twice activated, once to Iraq) and his work as a police officer since 2003 as character builders that he’ll bring to the job, if elected.

“I’ve learned that in either of these jobs, you must have integrity and leadership abilities,” Stratton explained. “I plan on bringing this integrity and leadership to the town board.”

As a fourth-generation Stratton now raising his own family in Dover, Stratton said if elected he will make decisions that preserve Dover for the next generations. “I appreciate the quality of life I had growing up and want the same for others,” he explained.

If elected, Stratton said he will ensure that budgets are scrutinized and tax dollars spent wisely.

“We must remain vigilant in our duties and properly represent the citizens of Dover.”
