Authors Hilda and Emily Demuth will celebrate the launch of “Hattie’s War,” their latest historical novel, on Sunday, Nov. 9, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Country Rose Bakery and Café, 19319 Washington Ave., Union Grove (corner of highways 45 and 20).
The public is invited to enjoy Civil War music and a vintage baseball display during Sunday’s book sales and signing.
“Hattie’s War” takes place in 1864 Milwaukee, where 11-year-old Hattie Bigelow loses her back yard to a garden for the new Soldiers’ Home. Although Hattie is more interested in baseball than in sewing circles, she is expected to do her part to support the Union as the Civil War rages on.
The cover photo for Hattie’s War was taken by another Demuth sister, local freelance photographer, Gretchen Demuth Hansen.
Their other books are “Plank Road Summer” and “Plank Road Winter,” set in Yorkville Township before and after the Civil War.
Hilda is also the author of “Kingdom of the Birds,” a historical novel set in Germany during the Reformation.
