Christmas (and Santa and Mrs. Claus) will arrive early in Union Grove on Thursday, Dec. 4, during the community tree lighting ceremony held in Village Square beginning at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and carols sung by the Sweet Adelines; kids age 11 and younger will receive a Christmas treat. Many other holiday events are being held in Union Grove on Saturday, Dec. 6, including:
• Breakfast with Santa and the Elves at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., when 216 people will begin their day with festivities held at the Masonic Temple. Once again, this popular annual event quickly sold out in advance.
• Holiday Gift and Craft Fai, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Union Grove Elementary School. There will be crafters, vendors, kids’ activities, live music and concessions. Kids can have their photo taken with Santa Claus from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The craft fair is organized by: Yorkville United Methodist Church, First Assembly of God Church-Union Groveand Union Grove Congregational UCC.

• Union Grove Model Railroad Open House, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. See a re-creation of Union Grove’s Main Street as it looked in the 1950s. Located in Vine Street Crossing, with entrance on the west side of building.
• The Cookie Walk features goodies at 21 businesses, where participants collect one unique cookie to put in their cookie tin. Cookie tins are available at the Piggly Wiggly, Community State Bank and the Chamber office for a $5 donation to the Union Grove Christmas Fund. Also, shop the specials and enter a drawing for one of two $50 shopping sprees, even if you don’t participate in the cookie walk.
• Have your child send a Letter to Santa via the Union Grove Post Office. Make sure full name and address are listed so Santa Claus knows where to send back a letter. No postage is needed. Drop off the letters at the post office from Friday, Dec. 5 to Saturday, Dec. 20.
