A snowmobiler suffered serious injuries and was transported to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa by helicopter following a collision with a tree on a trail near the intersection of highways 11 and 75 late Thursday.
Deputies who responded to the scene about 11:30 p.m. found a lone victim unconscious near the marked snowmobile trail. The victim was wearing a helmet, however, speed and alcohol appear to be a factor, according to a press release issued by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
The preliminary report indicates the driver failed to negotiate a curve, left the trail and collided with a tree. The driver was ejected from the snowmobile during the crash.
The driver was later transferred to Froedtert via Flight for Life.
The investigation into the crash is being handled by the Department of Natural Resources.
