North Shore Bank is collecting worn and tattered American flags now through Oct. 25 and will work with the American Legion and local Boy Scouts troops to respectfully dispose of the flags during a Veterans Day flag retirement ceremony in November.
Collection locations are Union Grove, 1101 Main St.;
Burlington, 116 S. Pine St.; Kenosha Central, 6906 Green Bay Road; Kenosha Main, 5117 Green Bay Road, Kenosha Festival Foods, 3207 80th St.
Besides collecting the flags, this year the bank will donate $1 per flag (up to $1,000) to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, which flies local WWII, Korean War and terminally ill veterans from other conflicts to Washington D.C., to visit their respective memorials.
The bank is also accepting public contributions to help send Wisconsin veterans to Washington D.C. The funds will be presented during the bank’s Brookfield flag retirement ceremony in November.
This is the 13th year North Shore Bank has held the collection, which has netted thousands of worn flags for retirement.
