Raymond School brings its March meeting to seniors

The Raymond School Board will combine a regular school board meeting with a Senior Breakfast in its continuing efforts to find unique ways to reach out to the community.

The school board’s regular March meeting has been moved from Monday, March 16, to Wednesday, March 11, at 8:30 a.m. This date and time is also the regularly monthly scheduled Senior Citizens breakfast.

In addition to engaging the seniors during this meeting, the eighth-grade class will also participate in the meeting as a part of a civics lesson.

School Board President Dawn Peterson said Feb. 24 in a media release that “This is a group of stakeholders who are the stewards of the community and who are vital to preserving our tradition and history in and out of education.

“We take our responsibility to listen to them seriously and consider their feedback important in our decision making process.

“There may be times when they may not be able to come to our meeting, so we thought it would be a great idea to bring our meeting to them.”

Besides conducting regular school board business as usual during the March 11 meeting, District Administrator Joe Dawidziak explained the public portion of the meeting will likely involve a lengthy question-and-answer session with seniors and with students.

School officials are looking for more ways to involve and include the community in the school and in discussions about education, he explained, and this is one small step in hoping to achieve that goal.
