Speed and slippery road conditions appear to be factors in a head-on crash near Eagle Lake Tuesday morning that killed an area woman, according to the Racine County Sheriff’s office.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives, was driving south on Highway 75 near McNamara Road in the Town of Dover about 5:30 a.m. when the crash occurred.
According to a press release issued by the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, a Toyota Prius driven by the woman began to fishtail in slushy conditions and crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound GMC pickup truck.
A caller advised a sheriff’s dispatcher that the crash left the woman partially out of the vehicle and did not appear to be breathing.
Rescue workers performed CPR on the woman before she was transported to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington, where she was pronounced dead, according to the release.
Shortly after the crash the pickup truck caught on fire, but was soon extinguished by firefighters from Kansasville and Union Grove.
Deputies report that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The investigation into the crash continues and this story will be updated as additional information is obtained.
