Youth baseball fundraiser features food, music, activities
The Union Grove Youth Baseball Association will host a Summer Strike Out fundraising event Sunday, July 11, featuring food, music and other activities.
Proceeds from the event will be used to improve the baseball diamonds at Union Grove Elementary School, 1745 Mildrum St., which will host the fundraiser.
The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. and includes the Senior League championship game at 4 p.m.
Among the planned activities are a dunk tank, water balloon toss, Junior Firefighter Combat Challenge, Sheriff’s Department K9 demonstration and a corn roast.
“The community has been really wonderful so far in it’s support of our organization and fundraising efforts,” said Carolyn Preston, fundraising coordinator for UGYBA. “I’m so excited for our Summer Strike Out event. My goal is to make it a fun family event that helps raise funds we need to continue to improve our program.”
The UGYBA is facing a series of expenses related to the improvement of the fields, including the unexpected cost of purchasing new backstop netting for the large diamond prior to this season, according to Preston. The Union Grove Elementary School Board voted earlier this year to suspend games for players 13 and older on the large diamond due to complaints of stray foul balls, she noted.
Preston said the loss of those teams would have been financially devastating for the organization, so its leaders obtained a loan to purchase the netting. Now that loan must be repaid and the Summer Strike Out event is one way of doing that.
Other projects in the works include providing shade structures over the dugout areas of the diamond, according to Preston.
Event sponsors include: 1175 Sports Park and Eatery; 3D Construction; Bob’s Mobil; BSW Electric; CAH Promotions; Jeff Braun Realty; Kastenson’s Auto Service; Old Settler’s Inn; R&R Pizza; Ruma Sports; Tom Kastenson; Union Grove Piggly Wiggly; Village of Union Grove; Wisconsin Vision.
