During his 27 years, Larry Moss took good care to enjoy his life and everything that was part of it, recalled Jessie Bertrang, his sister.
Born and raised in Burlington, Larry enjoyed riding his motorcycle all around the country, Bertrang said. “He also went skydiving and did so many fun things.”
But, in 2011, Moss’s life was cut short by cystic fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.
Moss left his friends and family in this area to enter the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison for his final stay. He died there three months later, in June 2011.
To celebrate his spirit of life and keep his memory alive, two CF Foundation fund-raising events will be held in Waterford on Saturday, May 5.
• The “Cuts for a Cure” is from noon to 3 p.m. at Shear Image Hair Salon, 725A Cornerstone Crossing, in Waterford, which Bertrang co-owns.
The shop will offer $10 haircuts along with kids games, raffles, silent auctions, a mini petting zoo, music, food, and a visit by members of Waterford Fire and Rescue.
• Later on May 5, an evening mixer will be held at Riverhouse Pub and Grill, 101 East Main St., Waterford.
Appetizers will be offered starting at 7 p.m. The Spare Change Trio starts playing at 8 p.m., with silent auctions and raffles through the night.
Tickets, $10, can be bought at Shear Image or The Riverhouse, A ticket offers free entry to the evening mixer, one free drink and free appetizers.
For an extra $5, people can buy a chance to win the evening’s Grand Prize – a Weber gas grill valued at $400 that was donated by Reinemans True Value.
• On Sunday, May 20, Shear Image has put together a team to walk in the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser at O’Donnell Park in Milwaukee.
The team’s name is LMFM, which stands for “Larry Moss for Money.”
“My brother came up with the LMFM name because he was so involved in raising funds to help find a cure,” Bertrang explained.
So far, the team has raised more than $3,000.
Visit their website, www.teamlmfm.webs.com, to learn about their sponsors and a list of silent auctions and raffles to bid on now. Silent auction items include an autographed Packers football; tools; Brewers, Wave, and Bucks tickets; and more.
