Dam work will lower Fox River water levels

Assuming formal approval is received, as expected, from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), work will begin on Monday, July 2, to repair the county’s Rochester Dam located on the Fox River, according to a release from Racine County Executive Jim Ladwig.

The work is necessary to stop seepage through the dam, and is expected to take up to two weeks.

During routine monitoring and operation of the dam, Racine County became aware of a seepage problem. The Public Works and Development Services Department and an engineering consultant immediately inspected the dam and began working on a solution to stop the seepage.

In the interest of safety, the DNR has ordered Racine County to maintain a lower than normal water level upstream of the dam until repairs can be made.

During the early part of this repair project, the water level of the Fox River between the Waterford Dam and the Rochester Dam will be lowered even further

After the first few days of the project, however, it is expected that the water will be returned to its current level.  Once the project has been completed, the normal water level will resume.

Any questions about the project may be directed to the Racine County Public Works and Development Services Department at (262) 886-8440 or [email protected].
