Like all school districts across the state, each of Waterford Graded’s four schools are included in a new report card feature that assigns a numeric number and examines a variety of criteria, including closing achievement gaps between different demographic groups and readiness for post-secondary school.
All four schools “exceeded expectations,” according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the agency overseeing the new report card feature.
Trailside Elementary School garnered the highest score of 82.7, followed by Woodfield Elementary School at 79.0, Evergreen Elementary School at 76.5 and Fox River Middle School at 75.6.
At a Policy and Curriculum Committee meeting held after the reports came in, Assistant District Administrator Ron Rivard said he was pleased with the results – particularly for an initiative in its first year of implementation that remains a work in progress.
But School Board President Dan Jensen expressed concern about some criteria used to assemble the scores.
“Everyone’s across the board,” Jensen said of the various subgroups being examined. “We’re not looking to modify the outcome.”

Goal-setting
WGSD officials are in the process of setting an assortment of goals for the current and future school years. The topic was discussed between administrators and School Board members at last month’s Policy and Curriculum Committee meeting.
One of the district’s targeted goals entails enhancing support to teachers through such efforts as peer mentor coaching.
“This is an effort for us to steer our goals and give a very consistent message to our teachers,” Superintendent Chris Joch said. “Our mission statement remains the same.”
