After 11 years of getting tramped on by more than 80,000 pairs of feet, the carpeting at the Waterford Library is being replaced.
As a result, the library will have limited hours from Monday, March 26 through Friday, March 30.
During that time,
open hours will be 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
The library’s regular hours resume on Saturday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

fully accessible to patrons from March 26 through April 5.
The project is being paid for with gift funds received from the estate of LaVerne Carrington, who taught in the Waterford and Burlington area more than 40 years.
Provisions of the Carrington gift specify that the money should be deposited in gift funds for expenses in addition to the library’s general operating fund.
Total cost of the project is $63,900, which includes labor and carpet, said Library Director Pam Belden.
The original carpet is now faded and showing considerable wear in heavy traffic areas, especially the much-used community meeting room, Belden said.
“The original carpet had a 10-year warranty, so we’ve already exceeded that,” Belden said.
The new carpeting is composed of carpet squares that can be replaced in spots wherever damage or wear occurs, Belden added.
“When we remodeled 2-1/2 years ago, the original carpet was replaced on the Main Street side of the building. The Carrington gift funds allow the library board to finish replacing the remaining original carpet all in one project, rather than a smaller area year after year,” Belden said.
A little gift has also been added for the benefit of library users, noted Belden.
The library’s usual checkout period has been extended during the project, so that no items are due back from March 26 through April 9.
