Waterford High School’s Academic Bowl Team took first-place honors for the second year in a row at the Southern Lakes Conference Academic Bowl held on March 5 at WHS.
A team of 20 talented freshmen through seniors competed in two separate rounds. First, each student took a written test in social studies, science, math, or language arts. During the second phase, an oral format, academic teams had ten seconds to answer oral questions.
WHS had several individual conference champions. Carly Barnhardt, senior, took first-place honors in World History for the second year in a row. Megan Baker, a sophomore, had the conference top score in geometry. Seniors Connor Westrick and Matt Bartling placed first in advanced math. A freshman, Madison Lindeman, won top honors in language arts-potpourri category. Finally, Alice Wnuk, a junior, won first place in the conference in English Literature.
Social studies team members included Morgan Ervin, Tom Noll, Sydney Ciano, Korie Beaulier and Carly Barnhardt.
Kelly Martinson, Valerie Knurr, Madison Corey, Abby Ball and Alex Gasiorowski made up the science team.
The math team was composed of Madison Blair, Megan Baker, Sandra Kinzer, Connor Westrick and Matt Bartling.
Representing the language arts team were Madison Lindeman, Natalie Erickson, Alice Wnuk, Jenny Langfeldt and Shella Sobieski.
