A project to alleviate past flooding concerns in the Village of Waterford will soon get off the ground.
Monday night, the village board agreed to a request from Mann Bros. Inc. of Elkhorn to hire on KORE Financial Services as funds manager for the project.
Mann Bros., with a low bid of $1.099 million, was awarded the farm drainage project late last year.
Mann Bros. is reportedly restructuring and recently asked village officials for permission to use KORE’s Secure Funds Managemeng Services to handle payments and deposits for the Waterford project.
Paperwork to secure that new arrangement is due back by March 16, said Village Administrator Rebecca Ewald.
Under the agreement, KORE’s is employed directly by Mann Bros., not the village.
The new arrangement will afford an extra pair of eyes to make sure funds are properly directed and subcontractors paid, said Ewald.
The board also agreed March 12 to waive a May 1 project deadline but kept in place subsequent contract deadlines.
The original project timeline calls for Mann Bros. to complete a new village lift station by May 1. The board agreed to Mann Bros.’ request to extend that May 1 deadline, but kept in place July 1 and August 1 deadlines for other project components.
Once the new paperwork due back March 16 has been received, reviewed and approved, the village will then be able to schedule a pre-construction meeting to discuss the project’s timeline, said Ewald.
“We’re excited to get this off the ground,” said Ewald.
“It’s been an issue for a really long time. Everyone is excited to get going.”
A $1.1 million Community Development Block Grant secured by the village is helping fund the project.
