All three full-time employees of the Waterford Sanitary District have asked that personnel issues and problems be aired before the public.
That request will be honored Wednesday, Nov. 7, when the WSD board next meets for its regular monthly session.
Monday morning, all three WSD commissioners met for about 1-1/2 hours in special closed session with the district’s full-time employees: administrator, Debbie Nelson; operations superintendent, Norm Nelson; and operations assistant, Jerry Ignatowski.
The meeting agenda noted that state law allows for a closed meeting to consider various employment issues, including discipline or dismissal.
State law also allows for employees to have their issues discussed in public rather than in closed session, which all three of the employees say is what they want to happen, according to Dan Dickinson, the WSD board chairman.
He declined to clarify further the issues involved with the three workers, other than to say WSD commissioners have made some observations that need to be addressed.
The Oct. 29 closed meeting was immediately followed by an open session, at which time possible action on the issues discussed behind closed doors could be acted upon.
But the WSD board chose to take no action at that time, as well as not discuss or make any decisions, to honor the employees’ desire for a public session, Dickinson said.
The WSD board’s Nov. 7 monthly meeting is scheduled one week earlier than usual, to accommodate the schedule of a WSD commissioner who will not be available Nov. 14.
The agenda for the Nov. 7 monthly meeting has not yet been posted. WSD monthly meetings customarily begin at 6 p.m. in the meeting room at the Waterford Town Hall.
