According to a media release from the state Department of Transportation (DOT), the expected opening of Highway 164 near Tichigan is being delayed to address shoulder failures that recently developed.
This portion of roadway was slated to open in mid-November, according to Michael Pyritz, a DOT
communication specialist for the southeast region.
It is unknown what is causing the failures to take place, according to Pyrits.
The DOT sent out crews to do soil testing and boring operations to identify the issue. Once the cause of the failures is identified, a plan will be put in place to resolve the issue.
More information will be shared as testing results come in, Pyritz said, adding that at this time, the DOT does not know what course of action will need to take place or what time line will be required to resolve this issue.
