All four candidates currently serving on a local school board move forward to the April 2 general election, following a primary vote held Tuesday for two positions on the Waterford Union High School (WUHS) Board.
Unofficial results at press time Wednesday show both WUHS incumbents advancing, with current board president James Graff as the top votegetter, receiving 709 votes (19.39 per cent of the total); and board clerk Nancy Klemko, 586 votes (16.03 percent).
Also heading to the spring election are challengers Dan Jensen, with 690 votes (18.87 percent) and Deanna Stever, 446 votes (12.2 percent).
Jensen, who garnered the second highest number of votes in Tuesday’s primary, currently serves as president of the Waterford Graded School Board. Stever is a long-time member of the Drought Elementary School board.
Tuesday’s vote marked the second year in a row in which both Jensen and Stever have succeeded in advancing from a WUHS primary.
In February 2012, they challenged WUHS incumbents Kevin Malchine and Don Engler, who subsequently bested Jensen and Stever in the following spring election.
In Tuesday’s vote, political newcomer Sandra Schwartz, the wife of current Waterford Graded board member Douglas Schwartz, garnered 308 votes (8.42 percent) votes. As the low votegetter, her name will not be on the April 2 ballot.

“Someone” has left literature dangling from my mailbox urging me to vote against incumbent James Graff for the sole reason that he signed the recall petition.
Instead, I should vote for Dan Jensen and Deanna Stever. Who also feel that Mr. Graff has had this job long enough and should let someone else try for a while.
Thank you, Concerned Taxpayers, for identifying someone I agree with. I signed the recall petition, too.
