Incoming Waterford Town Chairman Tom Hincz and Ken Hinz, who heads up the town’s Department of Public Works, are attending weekly meetings with state officials in charge of the Highway 164 reconstruction project now under way through Tichigan.
Following are recent project updates Hincz provided:
• By April 12, the Town expects to acquire signs that will be attached to barricades indicating: “All local businesses are open and accessible.”
The signs are portable and will be relocated as necessary during the project.
• Contractor trucks that are removing material from and bringing material to the project will not be allowed on Town roads. The trucks are to be routed north and south on Highway 164.
• Another highway and sanitary project is expected to commence north of Washington School on April 15. The box culvert work will shut down north Highway 164 for about 45 calendar days.
• Waterford police will concentrate monitoring of town roads and speed control on alternate routes such as North Lake Drive and Town Line Road, with enforcement of posted speed limits.
• The Department of Transportation and contractors will work with the community to minimize construction/access issues related to special events at the Town Park off Jensen Parkway this summer.
These events include a June 2 “Lions in the Park” free community day; a baseball tournament starting June 28; and the Tichigan Lions car show, scheduled for Aug 25.
• The shut down of Highway 164 between Beach Drive and E. River Bay Road is scheduled for July 22 to Sept. 5.
Residents are welcome to call town officials and the town hall (534-2350) with problems or concerns, Hincz said, and the town will pass that information to the DOT, which is in charge of the project.
Or people can directly contact the DOT project manager, Traci Gengler, by calling (262) 548-8727; or emailing to [email protected].
