A passenger in a car involved in a crash at the intersection of highways J and 36 in Rochester Thursday evening died after being ejected from the vehicle.
According to a press release issued by the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, the car in which the passenger was riding was headed east on Highway J/North English Settlement Road and collided with a pickup truck headed in the northbound lanes of Highway 36.
One of the vehicles then struck and damaged a utility pole.
Passersby who reported the crash at 6:08 p.m. told authorities that a passenger had been ejected and was suffering from serious injuries.
Deputies and rescue crews who responded discovered the passenger had died as a result of the injuries.
The drivers of the car and pickup truck suffered what are described as non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was taken to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington and the driver of the car was transported to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
The names and the cause of the accident were not immediately released pending further investigation and notification of the victim’s family, according to authorities.
