Scouting Court of Awards honors accomplishments

Senior Patrol Leader Sam Currie (at left) gives a thumbs-up as he hands retiring Scoutmaster Garrett Maas a framed collage signed by the Scouts with statements of gratitude for Maas’s six years of leadership as Scoutmaster. Maas also holds a plaque of appreciation from the Troop Committee. Standing in the background is Advancement Chair Bill Becker.

More than 40 people attended Waterford Boy Scout Troop 324’s annual outdoor Court of Awards recognition ceremony, held June 2 at Whitford Park.

Many youth and adults received awards, badges, honors that day. Advancement Chair Bill Becker and Scoutmaster Garrett Maas each received a District Award for their service.

Maas has served as Scoutmaster for the past six years, retiring from the position at the June 2 event. Filling the future Scoutmaster position will be decided later.

Troop 324 is now chartered by American Legion Post 20. The Crew 324 (composed of youth ages 14 or older) is chartered by Runzheimer International.

Even though, technically, a Troop and Crew are as unique as a Pack and completely different from one another, Waterford’s Troop 324 and Crew 324 do almost everything together.

On June 2, Scouts and their family members celebrated the accomplishments of 23 Troop 324 Eagle Scouts over the past six years. Later this summer, on Aug. 18, a Three-Eagle-Ceremony is planned.
