Three of four school boards have said “no” to a request to grant Waterford Graded a three-month extension for giving final notice of its intent to leave the Waterford Special Education Co-operative.
Still, all those “no” votes are now somewhat moot, since the actual date for final notice was apparently miscalculated and had already passed even before the extension was requested.
In September, Waterford Graded gave preliminary notice of its intent to leave the Co-op, effective February 2014.
It now appears that, under the terms of the Co-op contract, the earliest Waterford Graded can leave – if it decides to leave – would be the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, according to Keith Brandstetter, superintendent of the Waterford Union High School District, which serves as fiscal agent for the Co-op.
