Village of Waterford declares a flood emergency

A flood warning has been issued for the Fox River due to rising water levels and the Village of Waterford has declared a flood emergency.

Village property owners may pick up filled sandbags at the Village of Waterford Public Works building at 801 Ela Avenue at any time on a first come, first serve basis, according to village officials.  Residents are responsible for loading their own sandbags.

Ongoing rainfall is taxing the village’s storm and sanitary sewer systems to their fullest extent, officials said.

The village is urging all residents and business owners that live in area that may be affected by the rising river water to move any valuable items out of the lower portions of their home up to higher areas immediately.

The village has also issued a slow no wake order on the Fox River and closed the public boat launch located north of the Waterford dam.  Due to strong water currents, individuals are strongly encouraged not to boat on the Fox River at this time.

Property owners whose homes or businesses have been damaged due to flooding are asked to call Village Hall at (262) 534-3980.

Updates will be provided on the Village of Waterford website at www.vi.waterford.wi.gov on April 19 or earlier should additional information be available.
