Building security continues to be an area of focus for commissioners serving on the Town of Waterford’s Sanitary District (WSD) No. 1 board.
Commissioners and staff discussed in May the merits of enhancing internal and external security measures at the district’s facility, located at the Waterford Town Hall, 415 N. Milwaukee St.
Commissioner Ricky McNeiley was tasked with looking further into logistics and, in June, commissioners voted unanimously in favor of re-keying the district’s portion of the facilities within the Town Hall – a task that has since been completed.
McNeiley reported at the district’s June meeting that he had discussed the issue with Town of Waterford Police Chief Tom Ditscheit, and a number of scenarios – including exterior lighting – were discussed as options.
Commissioners have expressed a desire to discuss potential security enhancements at the Town Hall, as well as splitting costs with Town officials, since the two entities share the building and land.
Discussion and possible action on who shall be given keys to District facilities were scheduled for the commission’s July 10 meeting.
The background
Security enhancement issues were initially raised by Operations Superintendent Norm Nelson. Nelson expressed concern that only a portion of the District’s facilities have surveillance equipment, although nearly all of the parking lot is illuminated at night.
The deficiency, Nelson said, could make WSD property a target for vandals and thieves.
Beyond the re-keying, other issues relating to security were tabled.
