Concerns, ideas voiced in WWMD 2014 survey

By Patricia Bogumil

Results are in from a survey conducted in January to gauge opinions and concerns of property owners in the Waterford Waterway Management District (WWMD).

The survey’s return rate, at 44 percent, is seen to reflect a high interest in, and awareness of, the District and its workings.

In fact, the level of interest shown by one WWMD property owner is extremely high.

While closely reviewing returned surveys, officials were surprised to catch something fishy going on.

They weeded out 160 invalid returns apparently prepared by someone trying to deliberately – but unsuccessfully – skew the survey’s results to his or her own way of thinking. (See related story in the print edition).

WWMD Marketing Committee members Bob Hardy and John Bjork reviewed and compiled the results of the 369 valid surveys returned (the figure does not include the 160 bogus surveys).

Results were then presented March 22 at the District’s monthly meeting. Bjork followed up by also separately sharing his input with the Waterford Post.

Information about the WWMD survey and its full results, as well as questions and answers about dredging, are on the District’s web site, http://waterfordwwmd.com.

See the April 4, 2014 print edition of the Waterford Post for the full story.

  1. I was dismayed with the WWMD survey. I live across the street from the river coming out of Tichigan Lake, North of the dam. I have no access, can’t even see the river/lake. Of course the people who live on the lake/river want dredging as long as everybody pays for it. It is a total injustice for the WWMD to not send the survey to all the Waterford residents, especially if they try to screw us with paying for their lake river way of life. I guarantee that by an over whelming vote, dredging would be turned down if NON riparian citizens were asked!!!!

    • The riparian owners are responsible for paying for the Eco-System Restoration Project. For that reason WWMD is looking for options to assist the riparian owners such as grants or WDNR funding. The riparian owners will eventually vote for or against the dredging project.
