Village asks that residents run water to limit water line damage

The Village of Waterford is asking for the cooperation of water utility customers in response to potential problems resulting from extremes in weather this winter.

Customers may limit the risk of water line damage by running a constant stream of water the size of pencil lead from one faucet in their home or business. This winter’s extremely cold weather has led to frost depths of more than five feet in the area, and will likely start to affect some water service lines.

Homes built prior to 1980 are particularly susceptible to water line damage due to freezing.

Jeff Dolezal, Director of Public Works, said running a single faucet stream will cost a resident less than 35 cents a day but could help prevent costly repairs running into thousands of dollars, leaving a home or business without water for several days.

For questions or concerns, call Stephanie Charapata, Utilities Clerk, at 534-3980, ext. 229.
