Saturday Detention to hold benefit concert Saturday for family who lost home in fire

The band Saturday Detention will give a concert to help raise money for the family that lost their home in the March 23 Fork in the Road fire.
The performance will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at Half-Time Sports Grille, 200 S. Rochester St., Mukwonago.
Jamie Wambach-Daniel, her husband Kendrick “Rick” Daniel and her son Adam Farra have been living in a hotel in Waterford since the fire. Wambach said they “lost everything” in an interview after the fire.
“One of the band members contacted me out of the blue,” Wambach-Daniel said Wednesday. “They just offered to have this benefit and the band would be playing and reaching out for gift cards and stuff.
“I was just overwhelmed when on of them called,” she said. “They’re all teachers, that’s why they’re called Saturday Detention, and it took me totally off guard. I would never have imagined in a million years someone I don’t even know would do this.
“It just goes to show there are still people out there.”
Julie McKenzie, 39, died in the early morning blaze, despite the family’s desperate efforts to save her. Wambach-Daniel’s husband and son were driven back by the dense smoke and unable to reach McKenzie after breaking the woman’s door down when they were awoken by the smoke alarm.
The Wambach-Daniel family is in need of monetary donations and gift cards. The band is donating $150 and any tips from the concert and Half-Time Grille is donating 15 percent of the night’s proceeds.
“I’m just in awe,” Wambach-Daniel said. “The Mukwonago community has just been truly amazing, I’m shocked how giving they are and kind and caring; it’s unbelievable. We’re so grateful for everything.”
Wambach is an employee of Southern Lakes Newspapers. Her co-workers have also set up a fund to help her family recover. Donations can be made at any Community State Bank under the Friends of Jamie Wambach.
