Although the 2016-17 school year is well underway, the Waterford Graded School Board has approved a teacher’s request to resign immediately and assume a new position in another district.
Bryan Thul, a physical education teacher at Woodfield Elementary School, closed out his career with WGSD on Nov. 11.
Thul held a part-time contract with the district and has been offered a full-time position at a school in Kenosha. The career opportunity led the board to accept Thul’s resignation at a time when few requests are filed with administrators.
The board approved the resignation during a special meeting Nov. 7.
Although he said he is looking forward to his new opportunity, Thul in his letter said the decision comes with “mixed emotions.”
“In the two years with the district, I have had the opportunity to work with and collaborate with many influential professionals,” Thul wrote. “The students have enlightened and influenced me, and I only hope I was able to do the same for them.”
The search for Thul’s replacement is underway.

In other business this week, the Waterford Graded School Board:
- Discussed the district’s strategic plan, which has been an ongoing process. Speaking about the exercise, District Administrator Ed Brzinski said, “It’s brand new. It’s going to take some time, but it’s exciting.”
- Reviewed and recommended moving forward with the district’s emergency manual for next year. The document is prepared annually with consultation from school nurse Jill Sheeley.
Brzinski said there were not any significant changes to this year’s document, compared to prior years.
