The Village of Waterford will go on record in expressing concern with some of the conceptual plans associated with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s forthcoming project along Highway 36.
The Village Board on April 24 directed Village Administrator Rebecca Ewald to write a letter to DOT and outline safety-related concerns related to the intersection design at Highway 36 and East Main Street.
Ewald said the concerns first surfaced in March at a Public Works and Utilities Committee meeting. In a memo, Ewald said the panel “desired to know if the DOT could review this intersection for better turning radius when the road is resurfaced.”
The village has informally reached out to DOT about the concerns, but Ewald said the letter is a formality that cements the community’s position.
In other business, the Village Board:
- Approved a plan to have public works employees work under an amended work schedule throughout the summer, beginning with Memorial Day and ending with Labor Day.
DPW staffers within the village will work from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 to 11 a.m. Friday as part of the summer plan.
“I believe that a longer work day will allow DPW staff to complete daily tasks because of less down time,” DPW supervisor Rick Huening wrote in a memo. “It would then give us, if needed, four hours to finish any tasks that were not finished.
“With the construction projects that are and will happen the next few years, it will put staff more in line with the hours of the contractors.”
The summer work schedule is to begin this year and run into perpetuity.
- Approved an amended site plan for a previously announced paddle sports business that will be located on village-owned land near the Fox River this summer.
Ewald a few modifications have been made to the previously approved plans, including new landscaping specifications and the placement of the rental business’ building.
