Throughout the year, representatives of the Wolverine Booster Club collect funds to benefit Waterford Union High School’s various athletic activities through such efforts as an annual pancake breakfast and golf outing and concession sales.

As the 2019-20 school year draws near a close, club representatives announced plans to donate $19,706.62 in funds, which will go toward a number of specific equipment needs.

“We work really hard for this money,” said Booster Club representative LaVerne Lewis, who attended the high school district’s most recent School Board meeting on March 16. “We’re out there for the school.”

Jill Stobber, WUHS’ athletics and activities director, said this year’s donation amount was notable within the timeframe of her tenure. Stobber collaborates with the Booster Club throughout the school year.

“This is the largest donation they’ve given in the five years I’ve been here,” Stobber said. “They always try and up their game.”

As is the case each year, Stobber said, individual coaches provide a wish list of items they hope will be funded through the Wolverine Booster Club’s donations. All of the coaches’ requests, she said, were honored this year.

A sampling of this year’s donations include $2,700 toward a Dr. Dish shooting machine for the high school’s boys and girls basketball teams, as well as $2,520 toward team jackets for the high school’s boys and girls soccer teams.

Also in the roundup was $3,025 toward new equipment in the athletic department’s weight room and signs, a megaphone and speaker in the amount of $385 for the cheerleading team.

Lewis and fellow Booster Club representative Dawn Boyington announced the organization’s golf outing, set for June 12, which also will include a live auction.

District Administrator Luke Francois said he was appreciative of the club’s efforts throughout the year.

“We want to thank the people who are leading this,” Francois said. “Just know that it’s appreciated.”
