Blanche Magdalene (Ohmer) Valley, 91, Burlington, died Nov. 12, 2011.
She was born in McGregor, Iowa, on July 1, 1920, to the late Frank and Teresa (Grunenfelder) Ohmer. She spent her early life in McGregor and was a 1938 graduate of McGregor High School. After graduation she worked for the McGregor Telephone Co., working up the ranks to be Evening Chief Operator.
She married Leonard Valley on Aug. 26, 1946, at St. Mary’s Church in McGregor. They were lovingly devoted to each other for 36 years before Len died on Dec. 10, 1982.
They started to raise their family in Prairie du Chien. Besides taking care of their home and family, she also helped with Len’s business, Valley Refrigeration. She was active in Girl Scouting and also belonged to a card club. In 1964 they moved to Burlington.
She was a member of the Burlington Newcomers Club and loved to play cards with her friends. In her later years, she would spend her lunch hours at the Burlington Senior Center.
She was a loving and caring person who truly lived her Christian faith daily. She loved people and never hesitated to help a person in need. She had a sweet nature that shined through even when she was battling Alzheimer’s in her later years while living at Harbor House in Lake Geneva and Mt. Carmel Care Center in Burlington. Survivors include her daughters, Lenore Bond, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Lucy (Bill) Dinegan, Burlington; sons, Dick (Carol) Valley, Columbus, and Bruce (Pat) Valley, Norman, Okla.; grandchildren, Sean (Susan) Bond, Brian (Jennifer) Valley, Caitlin (Jake) Vosberg, Cuyler Dinegan and Mitchell Valley; great-grandchild, Andrea Valley; and sister, Aileen James.
She was further preceded in death by her son, Mark; son-in-law, Garey Bond; sisters, Loretta Greene and Edith Lohf; brothers, Francis, Tony, Harold, Eugene and Tommy Ohmer.
Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 5-6:30 p.m., with services at 7 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington, with the Rev. James Volkert officiating. Private burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is assisting the family.
