Esther B. Behrens, 90, Pleasant Prairie, formerly of Burlington, died Nov. 8, 2011, at Aurora Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Schaumburg to the late William and Clara (Staub) Japp. She graduated from Palatine High School.
She married Pete Behrens in 1957 in Arlington Heights. The couple then made their home in Burlington. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She worked for Goodwill Industries and for many years at Reineman’s True Value. In 1997 she moved to Pleasant Prairie and was very active in the R.S.V.P. program. She loved knitting, especially making hats, mittens, and scarves for R.S.V.P. and attending craft fairs with the program at local schools.
Survivors include her son, Peter (Vicki) Behrens, Pleasant Prairie; grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Behrens, Pleasant Prairie.
She was further preceded in death by sisters, Edna Japp and Lorraine Petersen.
Visitation is Friday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m., until time of services at 10 a.m., at Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home, 6019 7th Ave., Kenosha. Interment is Friday at 1 p.m., at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery (30w 730 Highway 20, Elgin, IL 60120).
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program would be greatly appreciated.
