Owens, Geraldine, ‘Geri,’ 88, of the Waterford/Rochester area, died Oct. 10, 2011. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., to the late Daniel and Victoria (Berniche) Pellitier.
She was a graduate of UW-Madison with a degree in home economics. She married Mark J. Owens on Nov. 18, 1950. He preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and she also had worked for Raytheon Optics Company, which had developed the Norden bombsight for the military, which was used from World War II through the Vietnam War. She was employed as a day nanny for some time after her husband died. She had a passion for cooking and once catered a frat party for Alfa Sigma Phi at the University of Illinois in Champagne. The Alfa Sigma’s made her an honorary member for helping them with that party.
Upon moving to the Waterford/Rochester area to live with her daughter, she would spend much of her time at the Burlington Senior Center.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Maureen Eckert, Rochester; grandchildren, Dana (Barry) Schmaling, Dawn (Tom) Mainus, Mark Eckert; great-grandchildren, Owen and Connor Schmaling.
She was further preceded in death by her son-in-law, Don Eckert.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 15, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Waterford. Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford, assisted the family.
