Luella B. Staines, 91, Burlington, died Nov. 4, 2011, at Mt. Carmel Medical and Rehab Center. She was born March 31, 1920, to the late Otto and Hattie (Schwanz) Madaus in Bloomfield Township, where she spent her early life. She attended 7 Oaks Grade School and graduated from Lake Geneva High School in 1938.
She married Arthur Staines on May 16, 1953, in Kenosha. He preceded her in death in 1983. They lived in Kenosha where they managed the Rambler Drive Inn until they retired. She also worked at the Simmons Co., and at Great Lakes as an IBM operator. They retired to Slades Corners in 1973. She relocated to Burlington in 1992.
She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Slades Corners, a member of the Ladies Aid Society and a member of the Senior Citizen’s of Racine County.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Muriel Madaus, Burlington; nieces, Betty Jeanne Madaus, Janet Sather, Karen Landen, Loralee Rogers, Sharon Kuhn, Marilyn Haskins, Joyce Gilmore and Patricia Comstock; nephews, Duane Madaus, Daniel Staines, and James Staines.
She was further preceded in death by her brother, Alfred; sister-in-law, Peg (Joe) Glosson; brother-in-law, Mervin (Mary) Staines; sister-in-law, Nellie (Lee) Whiting; niece, Carol Jacobson; nephews, Robert and James Whiting.
Funeral services were Nov. 8, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Slades Corners. The Rev. Daniel Nitz officiated. Burial followed in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Schuette -Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, assisted the family.
