Ann Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Simonsen, 89, of Racine and Waunakee died peacefully on July 28, 2012, at the Waunakee Manor Heath Care Center. She was born on June 9, 1923, to the late John and Amy (Funk) Willmore and was raised in Union Grove.
She married Eugene Simonsen in 1946. She worked in a law office in Madison while Eugene was in college following his service in the Navy during World War II. They lived most of their married lives in Racine. She enjoyed her volunteer commitment at various hospitals in Racine. Most of Betty’s time was spent with family and friends and she loved to play tennis and bridge. In later years, Betty and Eugene wintered in the Florida Keys.
Following Eugene’s death in 2008, Betty moved back to Wisconsin to be close to family.
Survivors include her sons, John (Jan) Simonsen, Knoxville, Tenn., and Dick (Mary) Simonsen, Madison; grandchildren, Andrew and David; brothers-in-law, Mel Pederson, Alan Simonsen, Frank (Dorothy) Simonsen and Ralph (Janice) Simonsen; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
She was further preceded in death by her sisters, Mary and Jean.
A private graveside service will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. Winn-Cress Funeral Home, Waunakee, is serving the family.
