Barbara Lukas, 80, Beloit, died Nov. 6, 2012, at Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Beloit, following a long illness.
She was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Hazel Crest, Ill., to the late Roy and Grace (McBain) Brown. She lived most of her life in the Beloit area, but also lived many years in Burlington, and Marshalltown, Iowa. She loved spending time with her friends at Scoville Apartments where she lived, playing cards and bingo, reading, doing word search puzzles, and watching the news.
She faced many adversities in life including a battle with cancer, but always put the needs of others above her own. Together with her husband, Herbert Lukas, she raised and donated several thousand dollars for local charities through bake sales and collecting aluminum cans.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Karen Wescott. Beloit; sons, Russ (Kathleen) Jackson, Diamond, Mo, and Randy (Sharon) Jackson. Burlington; grandchildren, Scott, Brad, Kaleb, Mary, Nathaniel, Esther, Stephanie, Kelly, and Randee; great-granddaughter, Hannah; sisters, Nancy Olson, and Vicki Dencker, both Beloit; her friend and caretaker, Barb Hopper.
She was further preceded in death by her son, Robert Jackson; brother, Charles “Chuck” Brown; and sister, Loretta Warriner.
Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, 424 Prospect St., Beloit, followed by a prayer service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. John Hedrick of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Beloit officiating. Inurnment is Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, Beloit, is serving the family.
