Dorothy E. Shinabargar, 97, Burlington died Nov. 6, 2012, at Pine Brook Pointe. She was born June 24, 1915, to the late Charles and Lettie (Connor) Prout in Rosebush, Mich., where she spent her early life.
On Sept. 29, 1940, she married the late Melvin Shinabargar. They resided in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. The past 12 years Dorothy had lived in Burlington. She was a member of the Good Sam’s Club in Arizona, the church choir and she was the oldest volunteer at Mt. Carmel in Burlington. She enjoyed working on her needlepoint, playing the piano and listening to gospel music. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed indulging in her chocolate desserts.
Survivors include her son, Larry; her grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Van De Leygraaf, Tim (Melissa) Shinabargar, Nancy (Eric) Lowndes, David Hodgkins, John Hodgkins and Mark (Natalie) Hodgkins; great-grandchildren, Alex, Jenna, Jaxson, Madalyn, Hudson, Caitlyn, Katrina, Olivia, Brianna and Will; special friend, Mary Shinabargar; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was further preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd Prout and Harold Prout and a sister, Pearl Johnston.
A memorial service was Nov. 9, at Pine Brook Pointe with the Rev. Steve Thorngate officiating.
Dorothy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Seasons Hospice, Mary Pearce and all the caregivers at Pine Brook Pointe, and also, to Pastor Steve at Mt. Zion Christian Church.
