Elaine A. Kemp (nee Marquardt), 81, Wind Lake, died April 5, 2012, at Linden Grove Nursing Home. She was born in Marengo, Wis., to the late Benjamin and Agnes Marquardt (Hall), one of six children. She spent her early life living on a farm and attending a one-room school in Loyal, Wis. She later moved to Milwaukee, graduating from St. John’s Cathedral High School in 1949.
While at a dance with her sister Ruth at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee, she met her future husband, Alloy E. Kemp. They married in Newport, R.I., on Jan. 23, 1953, while he was on leave from the Navy. While stationed at the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, their first son, Donald, was born. After leaving the Navy, they moved to Milwaukee, where Gregory and Karen were born. In 1964 they moved to Richland Center where Barbara was born. They ran a dairy farm until moving back to Wind Lake in 1972 where they lived the rest of their lives together.
She worked in various administrative positions over the years and eventually retired from Cooper industries.
Survivors include her children, Donald C. (Julie) Kemp, Dellwood, Minn., Gregory A. Kemp, Wind Lake, Karen L. (John) Beck, Carrollton, Ga., Barbara J. (Paul) Kosharek, Duxbury, Mass.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth (Harold) DeSimons, Milwaukee, Charles Marquardt, Guam, Caroline Newman, Oakland, Calif., Patrick (Muriel) Marquardt, Pine River.
Visitation is Wednesday, April 11, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at noon at St. Clare Catholic Church, 7616 Fritz Street, Wind Lake, followed by 2 p.m., burial at Southern Wisconsin Veterans
Memorial Cemetery 21731 Spring St., Hwy C., Union Grove. Church And Chapel Ritter-Larsen Bros., Brookfield, is serving the family.
