George Henry Hachmeister, 93, Beaufort, N.C., formerly of Powers Lake, died Nov. 15, 2012.
He was born in Chicago, on Sept. 7, 1919, to the late George J. Hachmeister and Christina Albert Hachmeister.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He had a love for sailing, the water, painting, and singing but most of all, his family. His sense of humor is legendary. Survivors include his daughters, Mary Allegretti of Jacksonville, Fla., Betty (William F.) Hardiman of Raleigh, N.C., Myra Z. (Darrell) Hachmeister-Burns of Burlington, Kathryn Hachmeister of Lake Geneva; son, George J. Hachmeister of Waldoboro, Maine; brother, Henry Hachmeister of Burlington; grandchildren, Tony (Tammy) Allegretti of Jacksonville, Fla., Christina Allegretti of Austin, Texas, Elissa Hachmeister of Chapel Hill, N.C,. Mariah Hachmeister of Beaufort, N.C., George Robert O. Hachmeister of Beaufort, N.C., Lawrence W. (Laura) Hachmeister, of Fort Lewis, Wash., Louis G. Gums and fiancée Katy Stackpool of La Crosse; great-grandchildren, Isabella Allegretti, Nico Allegretti, Eve Katherine Hachmeister; special friend, Mary Lou Hill of Beaufort.
He was further preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Myra Marguerite Zeiser Hachmeister, and brother, Albert Hachmeister.
Memorial services were Nov. 16, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Beaufort, with the Rev. John Carlisto officiating and the Rev. Caleb Lee assisting. Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Morehead City, served the family.
